October 31, 2009 Lutcher quarterback Gavin Webster ran for three touchdowns and passed for three touchdowns to lead PelicanPreps.com's top-ranked Bulldogs to a dominating 54-7 win over Vandebilt Catholic.Lutcher (9-0, 4-0) secured at least a share of the District 8-4A title with the win over second-place Vandebilt Catholic (4-5, 3-1). Considering Vandy finishes against 1-7 Helen Cox, and Lutcher faces 2-6 Morgan City, it is safe to believe the Bulldogs will be the outright champion. Webster--who had a hand in the first five touchdowns of the game--finished with 392 yards of total offense. He completed 14 of 17 passes for 263 yards with three TD passes and one interception. His top target was junior Jarvis Landry, who caught six passes for 170 yards and a touchdown. Trevor Englade (4 catches, 40 yards) and Jeffrey Deslatte (3-42) also had touchdown receptions. Webster also carried the ball 13 times for 129 yards and scored on runs of 7, 70 and 1 yard. The Lutcher defense maintained a shutout until the late in the fourth quarter. Landry was the leading tackler with 9 solos and 4 assists and a sack. Anthony Milazzo had 11 tackles and an interception followed by Derick Matherne and JordanBatiste with 10 and 8 total tackles, respectively. The Bulldogs have scored 54 points in two consecutive weeks and Webster has had a hand in 12 of Lutcher's 14 offensive touchdowns in those games. Webster is averaging 320 yards of total offense per game with 2,884 yards in nine games. He has tossed 31 touchdown passes with just 5 interceptions, completing 143 of 205 attempts for 2,208 yards. He also has 13 rushing touchdowns for 44 total touchdowns. Landry went over 1,000 yards receiving -- 1,069 on 58 receptions-- and has 13 TD catches. |
