MONROE - Behind 16 points by Brandon Sampson, Madison Prep captured the 2013 LHSAA Class B Boys State Championship with a 53-37 win over Simsboro Wednesday night in Monroe.

The win by the Chargers (42-6) is the first-ever state championship for Madison Prep in only their third year of having a sports program. Simsboro finished the season with a 28-7 record.

Falling behind early 6-2 to open the game, the Chargers would take a 7-6 lead with 3:54 to go in the opening quarter on a Brandon Sampson free throw and it would be a lead that they would not relinquish.

The Tigers would get as close as 22-18 in the second quarter quarter, but Madison Prep responded with a 15-4 run that extended into the third quarter to grab a commanding 40-27 lead heading into the final period and all but put the game out of reach.

Daniel Ogunyemi led the Tigers with 15 points in a losing effort.
