5-star Collins says if he'll see UT

Five-star safety Landon Collins is a wanted man. The 6-foot-2, 200-pound Geismar, La., native has an offer list that's a who's who in college football.

One of those on the list is Tennessee, and Collins plans to see the Vols next month.

"I do have interest in (the Vols). I talked to them Friday and Saturday before my track meet," Collins offered. "I talked to coach (Terry) Joseph and coach (Derek) Dooley.

"I like how they are recruiting me, plus their DBs are in the league. Like everyone, my dream is to play in the NFL. But with Tennessee I like their focus on academics. I plan on going to camp there in June."

In addition to Tennessee, Collins has interest in LSU, Alabama, Auburn, Texas, Florida State and Florida. Collins, who grew up a fan of Miami, has said previously that Alabama and LSU are out in front as he has seen both schools.

Collins has a couple of keys that are significant to his recruitment as he seeks his college home.

"I want to major in broadcasting; that's most important," Collins said. "Academics are the top priority. On the football field, I want a place to develop my skills."

One thing that is not significant is proximity to home.

"Distance is not a factor at all," Collins explained. "I do a lot of things on my own and have for a while. I would kind of rather go somewhere else and get away from home."

In addition to seeing the Vols in June, Collins has plans to see Florida, Alabama, LSU and he might go out to Southern Cal this summer as well.

As for making a decision, Collins has a timetable for things.

"I want to make my five official visits and I will decide and announce in January," he said.
