NEW ORLEANS - Jeremy Jamison ran 53 yards for the winning touchdown as Karr defeated Neville 29-22 Friday night in the LHSAA Class 4A State Championship, avenging a loss to the Tigers in last year's final.
The Cougars (13-0) won their second football title, ending a 27-game winning streak for Neville (13-1).
Brian Barefoot's 45-yard field goal had given Neville a 22-21 lead with less than 6 minutes to go before Jamison's touchdown, his second of the game.
After the Cougars gained the lead, their defense stiffened, forcing Neville to punt after a three-and-out. Karr then ran out the clock to capture the championship.
Trailing 15-13 after a back-and-forth first half, Neville took a 19-15 lead on a 1-yard run by John Diarse, whose 15-yard pass to Andre Fuller produced the game's first score.
Karr answered with a seven-play, 66-yard drive, culminating in Speedy Noil's 1-yard touchdown run for a 21-19 lead.
