Sampson has local offer

Southeastern Louisiana extended an offer a while back to Northlake Christian outside linebacker Gary Sampson, who definitely passed the eye test at the New Orleans Nike SPARQ earlier this year.
"They told me when they offered that if I worked hard enough I'd possibly get a lot of early playing time my first and second year," said Sampson, who measured 6-3, 222 lbs, at Joe Brown Park for the SPARQ Combine. The senior clocked a respectable 4.76 in the 40-yard dash with a 30.5 vertical and an overall SPARQ rating of 82.05.
The Covington defender just looks like a player, as well, and he's hoping to be a driving force in bringing Northlake deeper into the playoffs this year after the Covington-based program earned a number three seed and advanced to the Division III quarterfinals last year.
Southeastern appears to be in nice position to possibly land a verbal commitment from Sampson, who talked about the advantages of staying close to home in Hammond.
"The more their coaches talk to me the more I'm liking it," he said. "It's impressive how they have all these big-time transfers on the team. They have Micah Eugene and Sandolph along with Derrick Raymond, all in the secondary from LSU, and they have the quarterback from Oregon and the one from Louisiana-Lafayette. Coach (Brandon) Lacey and Coach (Aaron) Schwanz are the recruiters that talk to me from SLU. Coach Lacey is the main one I always talk to.
"Mississippi State has been talking to me a lot. I've been hearing from Tulane, ULL, Southern Miss and then Nicholls State and Southern both said I'm number one on their board; that they're just waiting for me to come in to a game."
Sampson has already attended at least one SLU home game this year. The Lions are currently ranked in the Top 25 in the FCS Coaches' Poll, which Sampson has noticed.
As a junior, he averaged 10 tackles and two sacks per game. Sampson and his teammates are currently undefeated entering their next game with Springfield, which also sports a 3-0 record.
Sampson says he scored two touchdowns at tight end and collected nine stops from the middle linebacker position in a recent outing.
