Top 5 Defensive Tackle Prospects in Louisiana 2016

Pelicanpreps.com will be releasing a position by position ranking of Louisiana's top 2016 prospects. The athletes ranked are not set in stone and subject to change as the weeks pass. Here is a look at the top 5 among defensive tackles.
Defensive Tackles
Rashard Lawrence
Neville (LA)
Lawrence is arguably the best DT prospect in Louisiana for the 2016 class. He has been blessed with size and strength to battle in the trenches. Like most defensive linemen, he commonly is a lot stronger than the guy lining up across from him. Starring for a program like Neville (LA) says two things. For starters it shows that you're clearly good enough to be "the man" on a talented defense. On the flip side it also highlights that you play with other talented defensive personnel. This isn't necessarily a fault of Lawrence. His challenge will be to play up to his high level at all times and not to the level of his weekly competition. Currently he is holding offers in the double digits. Expect Lawrence to produce another dominating season.
Edwin Alexander
St. Thomas Aquinas (LA)
The current LSU commit has impressed everywhere he has gone. His first step is the part of his game that will jump out to you no matter what tape you turn on. He recently weighed in at 330 pounds, but despite his massive frame, he is extremely quick off the ball. Going forward he will have to learn to use his hands, especially against other mastodons along the offensive line. Overall he is really raw and his best has yet to be seen.
Glen Logan
Destrahan (LA)
Logan may be the forgotten man among the top 5, but don't tell him that. The 6-foot-4 defensive tackle is extremely strong and always seems to be around the ball. He won't make the highlight tape via the stop watch, but his commitment to the play in unquestionable. Going into his senior year he will be a pivotal part of that stingy Wildcat defense. He plays a little high off the ball, but overcomes that flaw with brute strength. He must learn to fix that this year to be an even bigger defensive presence on the field.
Briston Guidry
Rummel (LA)
One thing you noticed about the Raiders' defense last year was their talent along the defensive line. They were downright bullies up front; Guidry had a lot to do with that success. The talented defensive tackle came into his own last year. His growth from sophomore year to junior year was tremendous. So much so that he has garnered the attention of SEC rising power Arkansas. Guidry recently committed to the Razorbacks and will be a great addition to their program. Expect his play to elevate heading into his senior season.
Mastephon Taylor
Mc Donogh 35 (LA)
Taylor is a legit 300 pounder and has always been a huge specimen on campus. He is another raw prospect, but has extreme upside for guy his size. He gets it done with power and eats up blocks in the middle. He has multiple offers from schools around the country; this includes national powers Florida State, Alabama and LSU.
