2020 safety Quinton 'Pig' Cage is set to play in his final high school game this Friday night, and it’s for all the marbles. His Rummel Raiders will take on the Catholic-Baton Rouge Bears at Yulman Stadium for the Division I State Championship.

Needless to say, Cage is excited for the opportunity to play for a title in his last game. “Honestly, it’s a blessing just to be here! Its emotional because I’ve been with the same guys for 4 years and this is something we’ve all dreamed of (being able to play for and potentially win a state championship). It would mean everything to win a championship because I've given this program my all.”

While he is seen as undersized for a safety at the next level, he plays a lot bigger than his 5’10, 185 lbs. frame. He’s been one of the most important pieces to Rummel’s dominant defense, accumulating 72 tackles (53 solo), 13 tackles for a loss, 4.5 sacks, 4 forced fumbles, 2 fumble recoveries and an interception.

“When I was young, I watched Sean Taylor a lot, but now it’s all Jamal Adams. I feel like we have similar mentalities and he’s a playmaker and is always around the ball in some form or fashion so I try to put myself in position to always be around the ball to make a play all the time too.”

On the recruiting front, ‘Pig’ says he’s been getting attention from local and regional colleges and universities. “There are a few schools talking to me, but I don’t want to name anymore until I get an offer.” Cage spoke to our staff a few weeks prior after Rummel’s playoff win over St. Augustine where he disclosed that Tulane, Nicholls State and a few other schools in the Southland Conference had shown some level of interest in him.

But as of now, his only focus is on winning a state title. “Right now, winning a state championship is what I’m focused on. In December and January, that’s when I’ll really switch my focus and can fully give my attention to that (the recruiting process).”
