KENNER—You can literally call Matthew Geraci one of the founding fathers of the Kenner Discovery High School football program.
The senior-to-be was part of the school’s first-ever varsity squad last year that went 6-4, missing the state playoffs by .6 points in the Louisiana High School Athletic Association power rankings. Pretty much never leaving the field, the 5-8, 185-pound 2021 product rushed for 410 yards on 44 carries and five touchdowns. He also caught nine passes for 81 yards and a score. On the other side of the ball, he had 85 tackles (21 for loss), three forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, six sacks and an interception.
“I take a lot of pride in what I’m helping to build at Kenner Discovery,” he said. “We are getting to help build everything, including helping pick out the uniforms. It’s been great to try and help build this program. I want to be known after I leave; I want to see teams in the years to come do even better than us. It’s great to see what is coming in this program.
For Geraci personally, he is starting to hear from a pair of schools, including one that he will be taking a virtual Junior Day trip on tomorrow.
“Ohio Wesleyan and Wabash College are the two schools I’m hearing from the most right now,” he said. “With Ohio Wesleyan, I think an offer could be coming soon; especially with the virtual Junior Day coming on Tuesday. We have been talking a good amount, so an offer is definitely positive. The coaching staff has liked what they have seen from me on film and they know my capabilities. They believe I could be a good fit for the program at running back.
“I’m a hard-working young man that loves the game of football. I am hard working on every play and I’m on the field for most of the game. I play a lot of positions and will do anything for the team to win football games.”
Sporting an impressive 4.13 core GPA, Geraci also has some things that he is looking for in a school.
“I’m looking for a good school that will help me in my major of psychology,” he said. “I want to be a therapist. Academics are a big part; but I want a good school that I can have a good balance of football and academics.
“I realized that I am pretty good in one-on-one conversations and helping people get better. I like that thought of that. That’s what drew me to psychology and therapy.”
