On March 24, 2007, 2-year-old Sam Seidel was injured in a swimming pool accident. He has been in Our Lady of the Lake Hospital for over a month, but his parents Dan and Kahne, have moved him to the Children's Hospital in New Orleans to begin the long and difficult process of rehabilitation.

In addition to the emotional strain facing the Seidel family, the financial difficulties that accompany an accident such as this are great. Kahne has taken a leave of absence from her teaching job to be with Sam. In addition, when Sam is moved to New Orleans, the Seidel family will need help with travel expenses and the day-to-day necessities required when raising your family in two different cities. These expenses are on top of the usual medical bills that accompany an injury such as Sam's.

The difficult journey ahead of the Seidel family provides us with the opportunity to draw together as a community and offer them our support. The Hardt of Champions Baseball Complex is holding a benefit "Grand Slam for Sam" on June 16 from 3-7 p.m. There will be jambalaya, activities for children, a silent auction, and a chance for individual's to test their swing against the Hardt of Champions Pros for prizes.
