RIVER RIDGE—After leading John Curtis to the Division I state championship, senior JerKaila Jordan was named the 2019-2020 Gatorade Louisiana Girls Basketball Player of the Year, the third Patriot to take home the prestigious honor.

The 5-9 senior guard led the Patriots to a 27-4 record and the school’s fourth-straight state title. Jordan averaged 21.7 points, 3.0 assists, 3.0 steals and 2.0.

“When a game needs to be taken over, JerKaila has the sense of urgency to do it and to do it gracefully,” said Jamie Thomatis, head coach of Mount Carmel Academy.

Jordan has maintained a 3.51 GPA in the classroom. She has signed a national letter of intent to play basketball on scholarship at Tulane University this fall.

Jordan joins Gatorade Louisiana Girls Basketball Players of the Year Tiara Young (2018-19, Walker High School), Kourtney Weber (2017-18, Ursuline Academy), Cara Ursin (2016-17, 2015-16 & 2014-15, Destrehan High School) and Kalani Brown (2013-14, Salmen High School) as athletes who have won the basketball award since its inception in 2007. As a part of Gatorade’s cause marketing platform “Play it Forward,” Jordan also has the opportunity to award a $1,000 grant to a local or national youth sports organization of her choosing.
