Louisiana DB Firm on Commitment?

Amik Robertson

National Signing Day Steals

Amik Robertson has been the most versatile player on his Thibodeaux High School team for the past two seasons. The talented Mr. Robertson has starred as his team’s quarterback, wide receiver, running back, kick returner and punt returner over that time span. That doesn’t include his mainstay as the team’s shutdown defensive back.

Unfortunately for Robertson, his career has been marred by injuries on the field, but that hasn’t stopped the colleges from attempting to poach the do-everything star in state pursuers.

“I have had over 20 plus offers in the table for some time now”, said Robertson. “It’s always been about being close to home for me. I wanted to be close to my family and that really helped narrow down my choices.”

Louisiana Tech and Louisiana State University were the final two choices for Robertson. The Bulldogs received the nod on Monday evening after taking an official visit.

“I felt at home in Ruston and all the coaches worked hard to recruit me”, said Robertson. “That meant a lot to me. It was the best place for me to continue my football career and education at the same time.”

The 3-star defensive back received a heavy push from LSU in the past few weeks. Turns out the Tigers happened to be the dream school of the Thibodeaux standout.

“I got the late push from LSU and I was excited about it. I gave it a lot of thought before making my decision. I knew I always wanted to go there and play. I also knew that I was probably just a fill in since they were not high on me early on.”

Pelicanpreps.com asked was there any chance that on signing day would the lore of playing for LSU win out over Louisiana Tech. His response.

“I’m 110% committed to the Bulldogs and that definitely won’t change on signing day.”

In Ruston, he plans to play from day one, but he did mention that he didn’t mind sitting out if he was not ready.

In college, he will line up on the defensive side of the ball, but the possibility of playing both ways was not out of the realm of possibility.

“The coaches have dangled the idea of me getting in on some offensive packages. I definitely want to contribute on special teams and have a chance to return kicks.”

It seems that Robertson is all set to sign his letter of intent on National Signing Day. He is set to choose the Bulldogs over Houston, Oklahoma State, Kansas State, Texas and LSU.
