NEW ORLEANS - Ouachita Christian captured the LHSAA Class 1A State Championship with a 20-8 victory over Haynesville on Friday.
It was the fifth state championship and second in a row for the Eagles (15-0) and extended their winning streak to 30 games.
Trailing 8-7 at halftime, Ouachita Christian opened the second half with a 10-play, 69-yard drive culminating in Colby Webb's second of three touchdown runs, a 1-yard score for a 14-8 lead. Webb added an 18-yard touchdown run late in the fourth quarter.
The Eagles defense helped seal the victory by stopping Haynesville (11-3) on fourth-and-goal from the 3 midway through the fourth quarter.
Haynesville's lone touchdown came on Kendrick Jackson's 5-yard run in the second quarter.
Webb's first touchdown came midway through the second quarter after an 80-yard interception by Tanner Pennybaker put the Eagles deep in Golden Tornados territory. Two plays later Webb scored from the 1.
