COACH: Don Shows.
TOP PLAYERS: QB Steven Ensminger (Committed to Auburn); RB Frank Goodin (Committed to Louisiana-Monroe); S Shomari Clemons (Committed to LSU); DL Will Blackwell; OL Clayton Chambers; OL Andrew Stout (Committed to Louisiana-Monroe); DL Luther Davis; OT Mark Snyder (Committed to LSU); P/DB Scott Love (Committed to Louisiana-Monroe).
SCOOP: Two ULM commits guided the Rebels to a 28-7 5A state championship win over Acadiana. Frank Goodin ran for 170 yards and three touchdowns and DB/K Scott Love picked off three passes and also blocked a field goal. It was West Monroe's sixth state title in the past 13 years, but the first since 2000.
West Monroe has graced the top of the Overall Top 20 since the early weeks of the season. East St. John was the preseason favorite.
The Rebels captured the title with a particularly stingy defense and an offense that struggled at times with mistakes, but was capable of putting points on the board in a hurry, especially when the football was in the hands of Goodin.
Next year's West Monroe team will be almost entirely revamped on offense, although WR Mario Wiley will be back. On defense, the Rebels may be even better, with top prospect DL Will Blackwell and linemate Luther Davis returning. ILB C.C. Carpenter, who had a big championship game, also returns.
LOSSES: Longview, Texas (21-0), Sept 3.
