Bulldogs Bite Cowboys in 35-0 over Sumner
No one can ever accuse the Sumner Cowboys of playing a week schedule. The Cowboys scrimmaged 5A Hammond, played 3A Amite in their Jamboree, beat 5A Ponchatoula in week one and then Sumner followed up those games with dates against Independence, Kentwood and Lutcher.
Now if that is not as tough of a schedule in the state of Louisiana then I sure hope that someone tells me otherwise. The Cowboys took on 5th ranked Lutcher of Class 3A and lost to the Bulldogs 35-0.
Sumner is now 1-4 on the season but there is light at the end of the tunnel. Sumner opens district play this weekend against the St. Thomas Aquinas Falcons.

St. Helena racked up 405 yards of total offense in the win and allowed Varnado to gain just 219 total yards. St. Helena's O-Line paved the way for 300 rushing yards in the Hawks win over Varnado.

Roos edge Eagles 16-12 to improve to 4-1
Two of the best teams in lower classification football met each other last Friday night "Under the Tank" in Kentwood. 5th ranked Clinton of Class 2A came to town to take on the 7th ranked Roos of Class 1A.
Clinton came to town with one of the top rushing offenses in class 2A and running back Silas Gibbs. The Eagles and Gibbs left town with only 138-yards of total offense including just 12 yards rushing.
On the flip side the Roos piled up 295-yards of total offense in their 16-12 win over the Eagles. The Roos Defense would be responsible for the first points put on the scoreboard.
Kentwood's pressure forced the Eagles to fumble the ball out of the end zone and the Roos led 2-0 with 3:38 left in the first quarter. Kentwood then called on their young QB to get them their first touchdown of the game.
Sophomore QB Bobby Earl threw a 70-yard TD pass to Alfred Franklin and with the Shakyle Robertson PAT the Roos increased their lead to 9-0 with 6:35 left in the first half.
A little over three minutes later the Eagles got on the board and cut the Roos lead to 9-6 but Kentwood would come right back and answer the Eagles score. Bobby Earl threw his second touchdown of the game later in the first half.
Johnny Thomas caught a 12-yard TD pass from Earl and with the Robertson PAT the Roos led 16-6 at halftime. The Eagles would pull closer to the Roos in the third quarter after picking off a Bobby Earl pass.
Clinton cut the Roos lead to 16-12 with under a minute left to play in the third quarter. Bot teams defenses took control of the game the rest of the way and the Roos Defense came up with a big interception late in the game to preserve a 16-12 win over Clinton.
With the win the Roos improve to 4-1 on the season and they will travel to Hammond this week to take on Northlake-Christian.
