Tulane lands top TE in Barbes Wainwright

In just a few days, Tulane's commitment list swelled from two to five. The latest on the list is Barbe tight end Troy Wainwright.
Wainwright is arguably Tulane's biggest recruit to date. The 6-foot-4, 220-pound Wainwright chose Tulane over offers from Mississippi State, Louisiana Tech and McNeese State.

"I was finished with all the camps I wanted to go to," Wainwright said. "So I took a step back and thought about all the schools. When it came to Tulane it felt good. It just seemed like the place for me."
Waintwright joins teammate, running back Nathan Austin, who committed to the Green earlier in the week.
"I think it is awesome to have someone you know going with you," Waintwright said. "It was kind of funny, we've known each other for a long time, and as sophomores we talked about how neat it would be to go to college together. It's good to have someone you know and you can motivate each other."
Waintwright, who also plays defensive end and linebacker, said he wil play primarily tight end for the Green Wave.
Wainwright attended Tulane's satellite camp at Barbe. That is also where other Tulane commits Austin and Iowa defensive back Ian Harson attended camp. Waintwright also took in Louisiana-Monroe's camp at Sulphur, the Nate Livings camp at Washington-Marion and LSU's camp.
Wainwright said it came down to Mississippi State and Tulane. When another tight end committed to MSU recently, it basically left him out of the loop there and pushed Tulane to the top, Wainwright explained.
Head coach Bob Toledo was a compelling draw as well, he said.
"I think he is a great coach," Wainwright said. "I think if you look at where he has been you see how he did a good job."
